Urijah Faber Discusses Reason Behind Retirement

MMA

Former World Extreme Cagefighting Featherweight Champion Urijah Faber will be competing for the final time this weekend at UFC On Fox 22. While some may find the fact that Faber is retiring to be a little stunning, for the former champion, there is a good reason behind the decision.

“I think without a doubt I’m physically where I need to be,” Faber told MMA Junkie. “The skill level is there. I think it’s just the emotion has been different as of late. It’s not a bad thing. It’s just that I’m immune to it, and I’ve always done this thing for the experience. I still enjoy it, but it’s just not the same. And I have a lot of other irons in the fire. It’s like risk (vs.) reward. It’s a very difficult life in here grinding everyday, fighting these young cats.”

Dark Side Of The Cage To Premiere In January, Will Cover Ronda Rousey, Matt Hughes, Kimbo Slice, More

Faber has challenged for the UFC Bantamweight Title four times, but he came up short on all attempts, losing twice to current bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz and losing twice to former bantamweight champion Renan Barao.

UFC On Fox 22 takes place on Saturday, December 17 from the Golden 1 Center in Sacramento, California with Paige VanZant and Michelle Waterson in the main event.
