Urijah Faber Weighs In For UFC Fight Night: Overeem vs. Harris, May Face Marlon Vera Tomorrow Night

MMA

There was a surprise at the UFC Fight Night: Overeem vs. Harris weigh-ins as Urijah Faber, who wasn’t scheduled to compete tomorrow night, weighed in for the event.

That’s because Song Yadong, who trains at Team Alpha Male with Faber, may not fight Marlon Vera tomorrow night due to visa issues and Faber weighed in as a replacement. Faber hit the scales at 153.5 pounds, while Vera weighed in at 145.5 for the potential catchweight fight.

Faber issued the following statement to Ariel Helwani of ESPN on what is going down (transcript via Nolan King of MMA Junkie):

“Song was supposed to be cleared, but they were having last minute visa issues. So there were a bunch of wild scenarios being thrown around. Jets to other countries etc. to get issues cleared. I told UFC worst-case scenario I would be out there and could step in. So everything was all good to go, and then something came up. There was a scramble and a panic last night, so I cut some weight to get under 155 to possibly be a last-minute replacement. Sounds like it is resolved, but I’m cleared to fight just in case.”

UFC Fight Night: Overeem vs. Harris takes place tomorrow night from the VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Florida with Alistair Overeem and Walt Harris headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, which airs live on ESPN.
