Fabricio Werdum walked away with a second victory over Travis Browne at UFC 203, a fight that the former UFC Heavyweight Champion won by unanimous decision...and walked right into another altercation.
The fight itself featured a few strange moments, with the first of them being a “time out” called by Browne when he suffered a hand injury in the first round of the fight. However, the strangest of all the moments actually happened after the fight with Browne was completed, when a second fight nearly broke out between the Brazilian and Browne’s coach, Edmond Tarverdyan.
For those who didn't see what went down, Werdum was being approached by the expletive spewing coach, which then prompted Werdum to throw and land a front kick on the coach, which caused a near riot between both fighter’s camps before things calmed down. UFC Heavyweight Champion Stipe Miocic joked after the show that he's experienced Werdum's kicks and feels bad for Edmund.
The Executive Director of the Ohio Athletic Commission (OAC), Bernie Profato, recently spoke with MMA Junkie about the punishment both the fighter and the coach will be facing.
“I shook hands with them and said, ‘This is (expletive) guy, this is TV…I’ve got your names–- if I think something’s going wrong in the future, you will not be able to work the corner. If I hear of any actions against you, I won’t license you.”
The UFC doesn't often travel to Ohio, so it's not likely that the incident will cause either man much harm, but the warning has been extended to both to be on their best behavior.
