Zabit Magomedsharipov Says He Is Off August 29 UFC Card

Zabit Magomedsharipov and Yair Rodriguez were scheduled to headline the UFC Fight Night card on August 29, but Rodriguez would suffer an ankle injury and get pulled from the event.

Now the other half of the main event in Magomedsharipov is off the card, which the fighter revealed himself through Instagram:

Harry Davies of Bloody Elbow provided the following translation of what Magomedsharipov wrote on Instagram:

“Greetings to all! I want to inform you that my fight on August 29 will not happen. Rodriguez jumped out of the top 5 to replace anyone. Fighting those who are even lower in the rankings is a step back. I asked for either a title fight or a fight with some interesting opponent with a name. There were no offers, so we turn off our camp and return to Russia. For the second time in a row [the] UFC breaks off preparation at the final stage. Thanks to everyone who supported and waited for this fight. The team and I did our best.”

Calvin Kattar, who lost to Magomedsharipov in the main event of UFC Fight Night Moscow, did offer to step in on short notice, but the bout wasn’t made in the end.

There is no word yet on what will headline the August 29 card, but other notable fights on the docket include Anthony Smith vs. Aleksander Rakic and Robbie Lawler vs. Neil Magny.
