UFC 200 Weigh-In Drama: Champion Almost Booted From Card, Former Champ Misses Weight, Results

MMA

It goes down at the weigh-ins. Well, unless you're Johny Hendricks' weight.

There have been major changes made to UFC weigh-ins of late. The fighters can weigh in much earlier, which has been met with almost universal praise. The UFC 200 weigh-ins on Friday weren't without suspense, however.

Rose Namajunas eyes flyweight glory

As the minutes dwindled down to the 10 am local deadline, Women's Bantamweight Champion Miesha Tate, Johny Hendricks and Kelvin Gastelum were all absent. Hendricks and Gastelum have had well documented weight issues in the past – something we spoke about on the first ever Fightful MMA Podcast – and that seemed to continue.

Johny Hendricks flat out missed weight, showing up at 171.25 pounds. Hendricks wasn't given any additional time to make weight, because the new rules gave him the opportunity to weigh in between 8 am and 10 am local time. Hendricks was forced to use a towel as he weighed in, and will forfeit 20 percent of his fight purse to Gastelum. Hendricks was visibly trembling on the stage.

Speaking of Gastelum, he barely made the time cutoff, but did make weight. Although he's faced problems making 170 pounds in the past, he's set to go for UFC 200.

Miesha Tate got to weigh-ins right at 10 am, almost missing out on a title fight. Had she been late, she would have been removed from the card altogether. Had she missed weight she would have stayed on the card, but the fight would have been only a title bout for her challenger Amanda Nunes.

Last night, UFC's debuting Will Brooks mentioned that the early weigh-ins hindered his performance
