Barbaro Cavernario Speaks About Hair vs. Hair, Bandido, More | INTERVIEW

Barbaro Cavernario spoke with Fightful’s Luis Pulido about his upcoming Hair vs. Hair Match against Dragon Rojo Jr., and so much more.

El Rey del Garrote, Barbaro Cavernario, spoke to Fightful’s Luis Pulido ahead of his participation in CMLL’s upcoming Semana Internacional events.

Facing The Most Wanted. 

Cavernario managed to defeat Bandido with a Low Blow into a Schoolboy Roll-Up on the August 4, 2026, edition of AEW x CMLL Semana Internacional. Prior to this momentous win, Cavernario spoke to Fightful about his preparation for the match.

The preparation is not something done overnight. If it was, imagine how that would go. Bandido is a wrestler who has guts and has proven to be a complete wrestler, which is why he is where he is. If preparation was from Wednesday (which was when the match got announced) to Tuesday (the day of the match), that wouldn’t be enough to prepare. Barbaro Cavernario’s preparation has been ongoing since I began my career, because we have to be ready for those big moments. The opportunities come, and I am more than ready & prepared, and there is a reason why I am El Rey de los Mano-a-Mano. I will show who Barbaro Cavernario is and prove my worth against Bandido.

Triple Crown Cavernario? 

Cavernario is one of the few wrestlers to have won the Leyenda de Plata & Leyenda Azul tournaments; however, he had never won the Grand Prix. Only two people have won the previously mentioned tournaments and the CMLL Grand Prix: Mistico & Atlantis. Ahead of his participation in the 2026 Grand Prix, Cavernario spoke about what it would mean to join this illustrious group.

I am one of the few wrestlers to be able to be close to that Triple Crown, but I feel I have been close and achieved absolutely everything. I am still missing some titles, like the Grand Prix and the Universal Championship, but Barbaro Cavernario’s goal is to win absolutely everything in CMLL. Ever since the tournaments given to younger wrestlers, like Gran Alternativa and Buscando un Idolo (which had like two editions after my involvement in 2014, and then it stopped), I have checked the list of those tournaments, and Grand Prix is one of them. I want to go for all the marbles. I’ve been on Aniversarios, in tournaments like En Busca de Un Idolo, Gran Alternativa, Leyenda Azul, Leyenda de Plata, I’ve held World Championships, and much more. This is a great second chance for me, as it will be my second time competing in the Grand Prix.

Putting his Hair on the line against Dragon Rojo Jr.

It was announced on CMLL Informa that Cavernario will challenge Dragon Rojo Jr. for their Hair on the 93rd Anniversary in a Lucha de Apuestas. Templario, Ultimo Guerrero, Zandokan Jr. & Star Jr. will also be part of the Lucha de Apuestas. He spoke about his rivalry with Dragon Rojo ahead of this match.

It was not something I was trying to instigate. I wanted to end this rivalry for some time, but Dragon Rojo Jr. is stubborn. He wanted the match; he’s now got it. The past is the past; what matters now is the present. We signed the contracts, and now we wait for the 93 Anniversary to once again prove who Barbaro Cavernario is and walk away with the victory & his hair. I need to emphasize that I am one of the best around in Luchas de Apuestas. I have never lost a Hair vs. Hair Match.

Cavernario also compared his rivalry with his previous rivalry with Felino. He told us he expected his rivalry to end the same way: with Cavernario holding Dragon Rojo’s hair.

I had not thought about it like that, but there are a lot of similarities. We started as stablemates, and the groups got dismantled. The arguments began, much more happened, and we signed the hair contract. There is a lot in common, and I am pretty certain it will have the same conclusion, about 90% certain that this story will have the same conclusion: Barbaro Cavernaro winning the hair of Dragon Rojo Jr.

Partnership with Soberano Jr. & Yutani

Cavernario has been teaming with Soberano Jr. & Yutani in multiple shows for CMLL. In that timeframe, they have been a critically acclaimed trio and a fan favorite, despite not being an official faction. Cavernario spoke about officially forming the alliance with Soberano & Yutani.

They are two good partners who know very well about wrestling. Soberano is a little more than Yutani, but Yutani is growing a lot in CMLL, and he will be the one who leaves a mark if he continues on his current path. What can I say, any venue Soberano shows up at is an absolute sell-out, and the line of fans waiting after every show to interact with him is huge. It gives me great pleasure that me & Soberano have grown at the same rate; he might have lapped me a bit, and I would like to formally form a great trio. If we can’t do it with Yutani, he may have other plans of his own; I would like to form an alliance with Soberano. I feel like we could talk about a lot.

Heavyweight Gold.

Cavernario previously called out Claudio Castagnoli for the CMLL World Heavyweight Title. While Castagnoli ended up losing the belt to Hechicero, Cavernario told us he still had the World Heavyweight Title in his sights and wanted a shot at the gold.

I have been preparing for that opportunity by reaching the weight limit to compete as a heavyweight, and I am awaiting it. At the moment, there aren’t many challengers lined up because there aren’t many wrestlers aiming for that title, but I am here, and I will throw my hand up again because it’s something I want. I have challenged for that title once, and if my memory serves me right, Hechicero was the champion after defeating Ultimo Guerrero. He now defeated Claudio (Castagnoli), and I hope he turns this way and gives me a shot at the World Title.
