Brett Lauderdale Talks Effy’s Absence From GCW, ‘We’re Letting A New Generation Of Stars Emerge’
Brett Lauderdale comments on Effy’s break from GCW.
As of publish time, Effy hasn’t appeared for GCW since the middle of April, when he lost to Zack Sabre Jr. at his Big Gay Brunch 11 show. In a new interview with Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp, Brett Lauderdale said that he doesn’t know what Effy is up to right now.
“Last time we saw Effy in GCW, he was in the midst of a full blown crash out. So I don’t know what he’s up to now, but I do talk to Taylor as well. I talk to Effy / Taylor a couple of times a week as well. I think it’s just a thing with Effy, like you said, he’s been on hundreds of GCW shows. He’s another guy who’s the foundation of the company. You could say he’s even on the Mount Rushmore of GCW if you wanted to.”
Lauderdale went on to say that GCW is trying to make new stars right now.
“Sometimes you need to take a break. You see this on TV wrestling all the time. You need to take a break for many reasons. One, he’s done everything you can do in GCW quite literally. Then he’s occupied that slot as a feature performer in GCW for literally years now. I think part of GCW being successful and continuing to be successful into the future is that we have to always make new stars as well, which is so challenging on the indies these days. Part of doing that or one way of doing that is by creating new opportunities that otherwise would not have been available when you have the same people in the same positions. I think that’s something that I feel like Las Vegas, the Collective this year was, in some ways, it was the end of an era in terms of I think we kind of went as far as we could go with a lot of people in those current positions and we need a reset. I feel like that’s where we’re at right now in GCW. We have a lot of new talent, young guys, hungry guys who are really just super determined to get their opportunity and wanting to make their mark in GCW.”
Lauderdale also was confident that Effy will be back in the mix soon.
“Again, I think that’s something GCW has to do. That’s what we’re doing right now. We’re letting a new generation of stars emerge and then I think when the time is right, probably sooner than later, I’m sure we’re going to see Effy back before you know it and he’ll have a whole new sort of locker room of people to work with and interact with. It’ll be fresh again and there’ll be new stories and scenarios and all of that. I’m sure that whether we see crash out Effy, whether we see some new version of Effy, I’m sure that there will be something in store as opposed to the same Effy we’ve seen for 300 something shows.”
Elsewhere in the interview, Lauderdale spoke about Allie Katch’s departure from GCW. Check out his full comments on the matter by clicking here.
