King Trevor Murdoch Shares A Harley Race Story About Happy Humphrey

King Trevor Murdoch recalls a story Harley Race told him about Happy Humphrey.

In May, Trevor Murdoch announced his retirement from professional wrestling. Murdoch was given a chance to speak about his retirement on the 6/27 NWA Powerrr. He introduced his newest persona there and revealed that his retirement wasn’t real.

Speaking with Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful, Murdoch discussed his fake retirement.

“Well, each day is a good day to be a king, for sure. Yes, sir. I am in a great mood here. I’m happy that the world knows who their true king is. I know they’re not happy about how I went about it. Sometimes when you’re the king, you have to do things that people don’t like, but it’s my job. It’s my job to do the right thing for the people.”

He then shared a story about Happy Humphrey that Harley Race told him.

“I’ll tell you a story one time that I was told by Harley Race. He was talking to me about when he driving Happy Humphrey back in the day. Happy Humphrey came to a show with a promoter who hadn’t done his job. He hadn’t been promoting, the tickets were low. Happy Humphrey looks at Harley and says, ‘Take me to the movies.’ Harley goes, ‘What?’ ‘Take me to the movies.’ So, Harley drove him to the movies.

The day before the show, Happy Humphrey walked to the front row of all the seats, and he wedged himself into the seat. Now Happy Humphrey was a 500 pound man. Large. He wedged himself into the front seat there to the point where he couldn’t get out. What happened after that? The ambulance had to come. The police had to come. Everybody in town knew about this 500 pound wrestler who got stuck in the seat in the movie theater.

When they started talking to him, what was the first thing that came out of Happy Humphrey’s mouth? ‘Tomorrow night I’ll be in such-and-such town, I’ll be wrestling.’ I did what I had to do to get my information out there, to get the world to look at me.”
