Rocky Romero On NJPW: There’s Still Lots Of Stuff To Figure Out, They’re In A Transition Period

Rocky Romero comments on the current state of NJPW.

The company has been subject to many changes over the past decade, but none of these shifts compare to the company being sold to TV Asahi and CyberAgent earlier this year.

Speaking with Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp for a new interview, Romero talked about the period of transition for the promotion.

“Things obviously change in New Japan. They recently got sold and so there’s still lots of stuff to figure
out. They’re in a transition period when it comes to that and also, with the roster, I think especially for the
Western world, they can definitely say that New Japan as a whole is in a transition. So I think it’s all fresh
and exciting. I think this G1 has been awesome this year. There’s a ton of amazing talent that New Japan
does have. That’s the thing that New Japan does best is they know how to make stars. They know how to
make talented stars. It’s the best training that you can get in the world and it shows. From top to bottom,
from Tsuji to the brand new fresh young lion at the bottom of the card, everybody’s fundamentals are
insane and they really take pride in what they do and pride in the details of it.”

Romero went on to spotlight some of the company’s rising names.

“So I think, obviously, it’s not 2017, it’s not the days of Okada and Jay White at the top of the New Japan
cards. They’ve moved on to other things. Now I think the world is starting to take notice of the next group
of guys that are killing it—Yuto-Ice, Oskar, Yuya, Shota, the list goes on. It’s already stacking up. I think
in the next five years will be one of the greatest rosters New Japan has ever had.”
