Scott D’Amore Looked At Running Maple Leaf Gardens In 2025, Praises Adam Copeland
Scott D’Amore has high praise for Adam Copeland and how he’s promoted MLP.
Maple Leaf Pro Wrestling will head to Maple Leaf Gardens on Saturday for MLP Northern Rising.
The event will feature Adam Copeland in his first non-WWE or AEW match since 2001 when he takes on Steve Maclin.
In January 2024, Copeland mentioned that he wanted to wrestle at Maple Leaf Gardens and would like to have his last match at the venue. While Saturday won’t be his last match, he is fulfilling a dream when he competes inside the venue.
Speaking to Joel Pearl of Fightful and WORKING, D’Amore explained Copeland’s importance to the event.
“When I was first looking to do MLP and we hadn’t announced yet, one of the first people I was looking to reach out to was Adam. He had done an interview talking about how he had wanted to wrestle at Maple Leaf Gardens. I texted him and said, ‘An old roommate of yours might be able to help with this.’ He said, ‘Keep me posted.’ We looked at it last year; it wasn’t doable. Very early this year we talked about it, and he was fully on board. Luckily, the schedule worked this time. It’s been great.
“Adam could’ve just said, ‘I’m going to show up on that day, walk into the building whenever he wants, have my match, and go home. I’m gonna do what I want to do.’ His approach has been the exact opposite. It was getting together to shoot all of those shots to reveal it was him in those teases. It was getting the sitdown interview stuff, filming content, doing stuff like Maclin at Dynamite. He’s gone above and beyond. In his own words, he says he understands the value and importance of what MLP has to Canadian Wrestling. It’s truly amazing to see a guy in Adam’s place in life and his position in the industry and seeing him go, ‘I get to do this for me, but while I’m doing that, I also get to do this for the industry on a larger level.’ That’s meaningful to him.”
Copeland wanted the match so bad that he was willing to bail Maclin out of jail.
MLP Northern Rising will be available for purchase on PPV and MyAEW.
