David Crockett recalls the most wild thing he's ever seen in wrestling.
Back in the 1980s, wrestling was still “real” to many performers who had to live their gimmick and uphold their reputation. One of the names that is commonly associated with having to live their gimmick is Abdullah the Butcher. “The Wild Man From The Sudan” was known for many outlandish practices between the ropes. However, a display of him eating raw meat nearly got Jim Crockett Promotions in very hot water with TBS.
David Crockett recalled this story while appearing on the Under The Ring podcast.
"The craziest thing I've ever seen on a show? Okay. Yep. I've seen some others that weren't on the show, but wrestling on a show? They're all crazy. But I know that we almost got kicked off TBS because of Abdullah the Butcher bringing out this piece of raw liver and started to eat it, and the blood, and of course, he's bleeding too, you know. Ted [Turner]’s secretary called and said, ‘Never again.’ So, yeah,” Crockett recalled.
