AEW Dynamite 9/2 Viewership Best Since March, Ratings Also Up In Wednesday Night Return

AEW Dynamite's return to Wednesday nights saw a big jump in viewership, it's best in months.

According to Showbuzz Daily, the September 2 episode of Dynamite averaged 928,000 viewers, which is up from the 813,000 viewers the August 27 episode drew. It should be noted that the August 27 and August 22 episodes aired on a Thursday and Saturday, respectively. The last Wednesday episode was August 12 and that episode averaged 792,000 viewers.

This week was Dynamite's best viewership number since the March 18 episode when that averaged 932,000 viewers. This week's viewership was tied for fifth-best for an episode of Dynamite in 2020.

AEW Dynamite averaged 832,000 viewers per episode in the past 3 weeks with no NXT TV competition, though most of the August 22 episode of Dynamite went head-to-head with NXT TakeOver XXX, which streamed on the WWE Network. Conversely, NXT, which had two of its last three episodes air on its usual Wednesday time slot, averaged 842,000 per episode in that span.

In the 18-49 demographic, Dynamite this week drew a 0.36 rating, eighth-best on cable for the day. This is higher than the 0.29 rating the August 27 episode drew. If one were to go back to the last Wednesday episode of Dynamite, that episode drew a 0.32 rating in the 18-49 demo. AEW Dynamite this week drew a 0.23 rating in the 18-34 demo and a 0.35 rating in 50+ demo. Among males 18-49, AEW's rating was fourth-best on cable for that day.

This week's episode of Dynamite was the go-home show for the All Out pay-per-view airing on September 5. NWA Women's Champion Thunder Rosa made her AEW Dynamite in-ring debut and in the main event, Jon Moxley faced MJF's lawyer Mark Sterling.
