Even if AJ Styles believes his Boneyard Match was a success, he doesn?t want WWE to do too much cinematic wrestling.
During a recent stream on his Mixer channel, Styles was asked by a fan regarding his thoughts on cinematic matches and if he believes WWE will put more of them. Styles, who previously said he loved working the Boneyard Match, noted that doing these types of matches more often will make them feel less special and start to lose its appeal. He did say that doing them once in a while is okay, but not too frequently.
?I think as far as cinematic matches go, I think less is more. If we do these all the time, then it?s not as special. We got to watch out how many matches we do. I think every now and then, it?s good. As great as [the Boneyard Match] was, I don?t think we should do it a lot or else we ruin it. It?s special,? Styles said.
In the past week, WWE has put on multiple of these types of matches. In addition to the Boneyard Match on the first night of WrestleMania 36, WWE also put on a Firefly Fun House match on the second night of the event. NXT also did the ?One Final Beat? between Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa on the April 8 episode of NXT, which was not shot as a traditional WWE or NXT match.
