After that run, Shelley continued his stint in Ring Of Honor and on the independent scene, disappointing a number of WWE fans.

While speaking with Shakiel Mahjouri of Shak Wrestling for a new interview, Shelley talked about turning down a contract offer from WWE just before the COVID-19 pandemic.

“I actually had tabled a WWE contract offer because of the pandemic, right before it. I was too scared to sign a wrestling contract because the entertainment industry was just so up and down, I didn’t know what was going on. Nobody in the world did.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Shelley said that Triple H was a big factor in the Motor City Machine Guns signing with WWE. Check out his full comments here.

Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin are now available as playable characters in WWE 2K25 as a part of the New Wave DLC pack.
