Many wrestlers have many different ways that they began their journey to becoming a pro wrestler. For some, they had been lifelong fans who longed to main event shows in packed arenas and for others, they happened upon the industry by happenstance. For Anthony Bowens, it was a little bit of both.

While speaking to Jimmy V3 in a new interview, Anthony Bowens was asked about Santino Marella’s involvement in him beginning wrestling training, with Bowens explaining how Santino put him in touch with Pat Buck, who he began training under shortly after meeting Marella.

“So back in 2012, I was at the gym and Santino Morella happened to be at the gym, and I’m not a guy who likes to bother anybody, but I was like, ‘when am I ever going to see this guy again?’ So I took a photo with him, and he stopped me, and he said, ‘hey, you look like a pro wrestler. Have you ever thought about becoming one?’ I was like, ‘yeah, that’d be great.’ and he gave me the number to Pat Buck, who also is a producer here at All Elite Wrestling, and I started right away the next week.”

Elsewhere in the same interview, Bowens recalled how The Acclaimed was the brainchild of Tony Khan. You can read more about that here.
