Bad Bunny To Star As Super Powered Pro Wrestler In Upcoming Sony And Marvel Film 'El Muerto'

The former WrestleMania performer and Latin Grammy Award-Winning Musician Bad Bunny (Benito Antonio Martinez Ocasio) is getting back into the wrestling ring. This time it will not be in a WWE ring, though.

Sony Pictures has tapped Bad Bunny to be the lead actor for the upcoming film "El Muerto." El Muerto is a character from the Marvel Universe that debuted in the sixth issue of the 2006 Marvel Comic series Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man. Marvel.com's biography page for the character states that El Muerto obtained the superpowers from relatives. When El Muerto wears his mask he can lift up to 30 tons and when his mask is off, he is an average professional wrestler.

Bad Bunny appeared at Cinema Con, an annual event held for Movie Theater Owners, and was introduced to the crowd by Sony Pictures President Sanford Panitch.

When speaking with the crowd and Panitch, Bad Bunny said, "It’s amazing, incredible. I love wrestling. I grew up watching wrestling, and I’m a wrestler. I’m a former champion, so this is why I love this character. I think it’s the perfect role for me, and it will be epic.”

Sony has tentatively set a January 12th, 2024 release date. El Muerto will be the sixth stand-alone film in the Sony Spider-Man Universe.

Bad Bunny last appeared in the WWE at the 2022 Royal Rumble in St. Louis. Fightful provided live coverage of the event, and you can view the results here. Fightful also had a live Royal Rumble Post Show, which can be seen on our Youtube Channel here.
