Becky Lynch Details Her Return As A Heel, What She Would Have Changed With Bianca Belair

Becky Lynch stepped away from WWE in May 2020 to be a mother, relinquishing her Raw Women's Championship in the process.

Becky delivered her baby in December and finally made her return at WWE SummerSlam.

Speaking to Ariel Helwani on The MMA Hour, Lynch discussed how she was ready to return at WrestleMania.

"I was ready to return at WrestleMania. I was kind of hoping. I was like, 'WrestleMania is a good time. That will be four months. My body will be back.' I was ready around WrestleMania, but it didn't work out. I think it worked out for the better," she said. "I had a couple of pitches and I had one pitched to me, which would be an interaction with Bayley, who at the time was the all-star of the pandemic era. It would have been great to do a little something, something with her. We can wait now. We'll wait again."

When Lynch returned at WWE SummerSlam, she received a big pop, but was made to be a heel, sucker punching Bianca Belair before hitting the Manhandle Slam to win the SmackDown Women's Championship.

Asked if it was her idea to be a heel, Lynch replied, "I wasn't aware of that until quite recently. I thought to myself, 'there is no way Vince will want me back as a heel.' I'm a new mom, left on top, it's a comeback story. I had all these different comeback pitches; fallen, trials and tribulations, Rocky montage. Then it switched to, 'well, we want you back as a heel,' which I understand. Once you're at the top and accomplished everything and we have these new people coming up and chomping at the bit, then I want to give them a giant mountain to overcome and it's something we haven't seen before."

Lynch said she was fine to try to make it work as a heel rather than be a babyface.

The former Champ Champ then explained her Big Time Becks character and how she flipped from being The Man.

"That was my idea, that I wanted to be everything that I wasn't. Where The Man was understated and would never back down from a fight and told things like it was and was very to the point and now Big Time Becks is over the top, if she feels like fighting she will, but maybe today isn't the time and she'll use nefarious means if she'll have to where The Man was always true and right. Now, I'll do whatever it takes," she said.

Speaking about the social media response, Lynch said, "It's new to get all this hate, but if they're hating me, then I'm doing my job. When it comes to social media, you gotta go, 'they're hating on Becky, they're ain't hating on Rebecca Quinn.' When people start criticizing you're art, then that's different. When you put your heart and soul into this and people tell you that you're not good at it (you want to yell), 'Well what are you good at?' but you have to go, (calmly), 'Well, what are you good at? Shut the hell up.' It's new, it's great because people are feeling one way or the other. As long as people are feeling one way or another and they aren't apathetic."

Finally, Becky discussed beating Bianca Belair and whether it received the response she was hoping for.

"I think it worked," she said. "What I would have done is that I never would have given Bianca a rematch. I would have tried to avoid every single way that she would get a rematch and I would have kept that going for a long time, probably until WrestleMania and then we see what happens at WrestleMania. We've left the door open, so we'll still see. We'll see how she makes her way back to the title."

Belair got her rematch at WWE Extreme Rules, but the bout ended in a no contest when Sasha Banks interference. Belair would get another rematch on the November 1 episode of WWE Raw, which was won by Lynch.

Lynch is now set to face Charlotte Flair at WWE Survivor Series. Elsewhere during the interview, Lynch discussed her drama with Charlotte. You can view her full comments by clicking here.
