Beth Phoenix Says "It All Goes Back To The Strong Female Role Models"

Beth Phoenix says the strong women in her life shaped who she became.

The United States Government recognizes March as National Women's History Month and on the first day of March Canadian born Natalya published an interview for the Calgary Sun with one of the strongest (figuratively and literally) women she knows Beth Phoenix. Natalya wrote that she thinks Phoenix is "living proof that we can accomplish anything."

She asked Phoenix about the strong female role models in her life and Phoenix shared what her mother and grandmother have done for her.

"I think it all goes back to the strong female role models I had growing up...My mom raised myself and my brother as a single mom for the majority of our youth. She worked two jobs. She volunteered and served at my school so that we could get assistance to attend private Catholic school. She cooked healthy meals for us every single night after working long days. She spoiled us on birthdays and Christmas, even if it meant sacrificing many other things throughout the year," said Phoenix

While her mother was a loving provider, Phoenix looked to her grandmother as a teacher and the one to instill values.

"My grandmother was my teacher, a mentor, a care-giver, a matriarch. She taught me to cook, to sew, to have pride in my heritage, to sing, to value class and your own integrity above all. I grew up hoping one day I would be able to demonstrate to others (like my mother and grandmother did for me) that you need to work hard for the things you want and more importantly, what it means to know and love yourself for the things that make you special,? said Phoenix

Also during the interview, Phoenix discussed the direction of the women's division in WWE. Phoenix made a surprise appearance in January at the first ever Women's Royal Rumble match where she was eliminated by Natalya.

The rest of the interview is available on the Calgary Sun website
