Beyond Wrestling Founder Drew Cordeiro Discusses Plans To Do Women's G1 Before The Pandemic

Beyond Wrestling wrapped season two of its Uncharted Territory series at the end of 2019, leading into Heavy Lies The Crown in December 2019.

As the calendar flipped to 2020, Beyond was gearing up for its Americanrana event, but plans were scrapped due to the pandemic.

Speaking on the North-South Connection, Beyond Wrestling Founder Drew Cordeiro discussed plans for Beyond after Uncharted Territory season two.

"As far as Beyond Championship Wrestling goes, we had an extremely aggressive schedule coming up, let's do something offbeat, a little bit silly, something that hasn't really been done before and take people on a little bit of a ride and get people back on track by the end of the show and dropped some major announcements. The fact that we were going to do our first live event head-to-head, with WrestleMania, which was an idea I always had prior to WrestleMania being two days in Tampa, that was frustrating that it was an idea we couldn't do and is an idea we'll never be able to get back to, especially with the way WrestleMania weekends are set up now. There is such a glutton of events, somebody is bound to be doing an event against one of the nights, it's just not as special as it would have been. We were supposed to be coming back with the third season of Uncharted Territory and the fourth season of Uncharted Territory, we had programming penciled in for between the two seasons, which was going to be a nine or ten-week women's tournament that were going to try and model after the G1, which would have involved somewhere between 10 and 12 women's wrestlers, a lot of them who have gone on to do spectacular things in AEW. It was very frustrating to be in a position where we had months and months of work and all the planning and then unable to execute anything," he said.

Beyond Wrestling returned with monthly events in July 2020. Uncharted Territory season three premiered in October 2021.

Elsewhere during the interview, Cordeiro discussed the impact of WWE and AEW on the independent scene. You can find his full comments by clicking here.
