One of the strongest contributions accredited to John Cena's career in WWE is the eight-year lifespan of the spinner version of the WWE Championship. That particular design is said to have sold a lot of merchandise, however, not everybody within WWE was happy about the design of the most prestigious championship in WWE during that era.
One such outspoken name is ?The World?s Largest Athlete? Big Show. During the second episode of WWE's Ruthless Aggression documentary, which focuses heavily on John Cena, Big Show did not mince words regarding his feelings about that championship design.
Big Show stated boldly, "The spinner belt, thirty-something pounds of garbage."
Former head writer of WWE Raw, Brian Gewirtz also chimed in how about the divisiveness of the championship.
?I think it was very divisive,? Gewirtz began. ?On the one hand, it sold a ton of merchandise and the younger audience absolutely loved it. The more traditional old school audience thought, 'what the hell has the procedures WWE Championship turned into?! It's a toy now?!'?
In spite of its divisiveness, that particular version of the WWE Championship would be held by more than a dozen WWE Superstars and last from 2005 until 2013 when The Rock finally revealed a new design after beating CM Punk at the 2013 Royal Rumble event.
