Big Show: The Industry Has Changed And Done Everything To Protect The Athlete

The Big Show responds to John Oliver.

WrestleMania week got off to a bad start for WWE as the talk of the industry was not the biggest show of the year. Instead, the conversation centered around John Oliver and his Last Week Tonight segment on WWE. In the segment, Oliver took aim at Vince McMahon for treating wrestlers as independent contractors instead of full-time employees, ripping him for not providing health benefits. With WWE superstars making the media rounds this week to promote WrestleMania, the John Oliver segment was bound to be brought up.

TMZ caught up with The Big Show and got his thoughts on Oliver's comments.

"Everybody is entitled to their own opinion. Everyone has their own experiences of how they feel. I've had a hell of a career. I've had a lot of injuries. I knew from day one, stepping through the ropes that it was not an easy job, it was a job that I was gonna put myself at risk," said Show. "I took the paychecks, the fame, the fortune and those are the risks that happened. That's just part of the industry. The industry has changed. It's done everything it can to protect the athlete and create longevity for the athlete. I'm 47. I'm still rocking and rolling. They're doing something right."

Earlier today, The Miz defended WWE from Oliver's criticisms, alluding to the fact that Oliver only did the segment as it coincided with WrestleMania week. You can view Miz' comments here.
