Brie Bella Will Not Undergo Surgery For Scapula Injury, Says She’ll Be Out Three To Six Months

Brie Bella opens up about her injury.
Coming out of WWE SummerSlam, where Fatal Influence (Jacy Jayne, Fallon Henley & Lainey Reid) scored a win over the trio of Paige, Nikki Bella and Brie Bella, Brie revealed that she suffered a broken scapula (shoulder blade).
Brie opened up about her injury during the latest episode of The Nikki & Brie Show. She stated that her scapula broke in three places, but she is not placing the blame on anybody for it. She confirmed that it happened when she took the cannonball against the ring steps.
“Unfortunately for me, maybe one of my worst because getting injured… So I broke my scapula. It’s fractured in two or three spots. I think it’s three places, and yeah, it’s really hard to break your scapula, which is really interesting so it just shows you a freak accident which before I get into it, I do wanna say that it’s nobody’s fault — my injury. It’s part of the business. In wrestling, we all sign up knowing. I mean, look at Nikki (Bella); three months ago, broke her ankle in-ring. So we all kind of go in there knowing you take that risk that injury can happen. You never know when, never know what kind of move or when it just happens. So, I did break it and I broke it, for all of you, yes, on the stairs, when I got the cannonball. But, it was weird because when it happened, I instantly knew… I think everyone heard me scream in a way you never heard me scream before. But, it’s kind of like what you said when you broke your ankle. You feel the fire but, it was weird because it was — I felt the fire but I felt my body tense up so much and then it just was such sharp pains. I haven’t been in that much pain in a long time…”
Brie added that those backstage were relaying to the referee to tell her to stay out of the match, but she kept coming back. Brie admitted that she missed some big moves.
“I started to smarten up to it once we could catch our breath and I finally was starting to say something. The ref kept checking on me because the doctors speak to her and Triple H — everyone’s speaking to her through her headphone… so they were checking up on me and they were asking to me to stay out, but I kept coming back in. Now granted, I missed some big moves and we all had to readjust on the fly… I was laying in the hospital that night feeling like I was just the weakest link and made the match look really sloppy for everyone. But, I think what really did it for me was at the end when I took the spinning X-Factor out, because I kept taking moves out and I’m like, in my head, because it was so painful, I was like, what am I doing? But I gotta keep going, and the doctors kept — they were crying on the ground trying to get to me… I couldn’t even get into the ring properly (for the post-match).”
She then dove into what her doctor told her. Bella learned that it is not often that scapula surgery is performed, but the doctor could recommend someone to do it.
It was ultimately decided that she will not undergo surgery and is expected to be out for three to six months, depending on the healing.
“He was like, ‘It’s really hard to break your scapula.’ He was like, ‘No one does surgery on scapulas. If you really want it, there’s one doctor that can do it, but honestly, it’s like breaking your ribs in a way. You just wait till they slowly heal,’ and so that’s what I have to do, and with that, I know I have to get X-rays every two weeks to make sure I am healing. I don’t start P.T. for another two weeks. So they really want me to be bedridden.” Brie continued, “From there, you guys, I’m out for three to six months. So it all depends how my scapula heals. I like to think us Bellas, our bones heal quick. But, the scapula’s kind of a tricky one…”
After their loss to Fatal Influence, Brie and Nikki turned on Paige and beat her down in the ring.
