Britt Baker & Tony Schiavone Reflect On Having To 'Wing It' After Missed Verbal Cue On AEW Dynamite

Anything can happen on live television and sometimes you just have to wing it.

Britt Baker and Tony Schiavone have discovered instant chemistry on AEW Dynamite as Baker has grown into her own as a heel and Schiavone has been the butt of many of her jokes. On the March 11 episode of AEW Dynamite, the two got together for an interview at the top of the ramp. And things were going well until a production mishap forced them to improvise.

Speaking on AEW Unrestricted, Baker and Schiavone recalled Big Swole missing a verbal cue during their segment in Utah.

"Having you [Tony Schiavone] there, is like a comfort blanket. I'm like, 'If this goes off the wall and downhill quickly, I'm next to Tony Schiavone, he'll get it back on track.' Having you there, that's why I think I haven't crashed and burned and (have) been so successful. It's in my head, 'he's here, we'll be okay,'" began Baker.

Schiavone began retelling the story of the missed cue by saying "It's like the last one you did with Big Swole and she missed her cue coming out. We just repeated the line again."

Baker added, "We're literally like, 'When is she coming?' For almost a minute we waited for her and I had said my cue twice and we're like, 'Well, we'll just awkwardly smile' and the fans wanted to kill me after I insulted their whole town."

Aubrey Edwards, who is the co-host on the podcast alongside Schiavone, explained what was happening backstage and why the cue was missed.

"To be fair, it was not her fault. We were listening backstage and there was no speaker set up, so we couldn't actually hear the cue word. We were waiting for someone in production to be like, 'Hey, did they say it?' Eventually we were like, 'Fuck it, send her out,'" said Aubrey.

Baker continued, saying, "I went back and was like, 'Where was she?' 'Oh, we couldn't hear.' 'Well, you had two minutes beforehand to figure out that you couldn't hear and figure out how to hear to send her out.'"

Schiavone almost decided to just introduce Swole, giving the indication that she needed to come out.

"I love doing stuff like that, stuff off the cuff and when things go wrong and trying to pick it up. I came close to saying, 'Well, Dr. Baker, I do know there's a lady in the back who has taken exception to everything you've said so let's bring out Big Swole,'" he said.

Baker joked that the two of them should have began to rap Swole's theme song as a way to bring her out.

In the end, all three chalked it up to Dynamite being live television, where anything can happen.

Fans can re-watch the segment in the video above.

Unfortunately, Baker is currently out of action with a knee injury. She will address her status on Wednesday's AEW Dynamite.
