Cain Velasquez Says CM Punk Told Him To Be A Team Player Prior To WWE Debut

Cain Velasquez on advice he received prior to his WWE debut.

The Fox premiere of WWE SmackDown was capped off with a big surprise as former UFC Heavyweight Champion Cain Velasquez showed up and had Brock Lesnar running scared. Velasquez and Lesnar have history dating back to 2010 when Cain defeated Brock to capture the UFC Heavyweight Title.

Speaking to ESPN, Cain revealed who he talked to prior to showing up on SmackDown.

"CM Punk, I talked to. I talked to Travis [Browne] a little bit. In the beginning, when I started thinking of getting into [wrestling], talking to him, he was really happy with what Ronda [Rousey] was doing. He had really positive stuff to say about working with WWE. [Daniel Cormier] is obviously the ultimate fan. He's the ultimate fan and (has) great insight. He's all for it."

When asked what CM Punk said to him, Cain replied, "He said, 'As far as getting into it, you just gotta be a team player' and 'We're all working together as a company to better ourselves. Come to the end of the day, it's business as well. You just have to be okay with what you have and what you're being compensated for in order to go out and perform.' I think what I'm doing is fun as shit. I'm having a blast."

CM Punk left WWE on bad terms in 2014, but things have cooled between the two parties over the years and reports suggest that Punk could join Fox Sports 1 studio show WWE Backstage.

Once he was backstage at SmackDown, Cain revealed that he ran into Roman Reigns, who told him, "it's awesome to see you here. Hopefully, we get to see more of you."

Despite Cain's appearance on SmackDown it was reported, and confirmed by Cain, that he and WWE had yet to reach an agreement, but they were still talking. It was also reported that Cain would be facing Lesnar at WWE Crown Jewel on Oct. 31. WWE has yet to confirm the match.
