Fans got a surprise on Tuesday's NXT at Carmelo Hayes, formerly Christian Casanova made his NXT debut, answering Kushida's open challenge for the NXT Cruiserweight Championship.
Carmelo put up a strong contest against the reigning NXT Cruiserweight Champion, but Kushida was able to score the victory with the hoverboard lock. After the match, Kushida showed his respect for the challenger by shaking his hand.

Casanova was announced as part of the February 2021 WWE Performance Center recruitment class. He has previously worked for GCW, Beyond Wrestling, and EVOLVE.
