Chad Gable says the entire experience of being El Grande Americano was the most freeing thing he’s done in his wrestling career.

Back in May, Gable’s time as a masked luchador would come to an end when he would lose a mask vs mask match with the newer El Grande Americano in AAA. Since then, Gable has turned babyface and will be challenging a former heated rival in Penta for the Intercontinental Championship at this weekend’s SummerSlam Premium Live Event.

While speaking to ESPN’s SportsCenter in a new interview, Chad Gable would be asked how his time as El Grande Americano would impact his upcoming title match.

“That entire experience was the most freeing thing I’ve ever done in my career. Undertaker helped me down there, really cut loose. Jeremy Borash helped me cut loose and find myself, and just embracing the Mexican culture, the Mexican people, the spirit down there of their fans, and just the Lucha Libre crowd and the audience and the whole aura of the thing, it set me free, man, and now you’re getting the best version of Chad Gable because of that experience.”

Elsewhere in the same interview, Gable spoke about his upcoming Intercontinental title match being the biggest of his career so far. You can read more about that here.
