Charlotte would be part of a group of WWE women’s talent called up to the main roster in July of 2015, and would quickly become one of the top stars in WWE’s women’s division, capturing the WWE Divas Championship at Night Of Champions that year and holding it until it was retired at WrestleMania 32 in favor of the WWE Women’s Championship.
While speaking to DS Shin on Ring The Belle, Charlotte Flair discussed the ‘controversy’ surrounding the Divas Championship, noting that she never understood the controversy behind the championship belt.
“For me, it was like the one title that I felt owned me and I didn’t own. But I was also, as an athlete, so proud to hold the Divas Championship and feel like a diva, when at my core was an athlete, and realizing you could be both at the same time, and then when I retired it, I took a lot of pride because you have to look at the women before me, and had I not retired the Divas Championship and ended Nikki Bella’s longest reigning Divas Championship reign, where would I be today? It was like all part of the history. I never understood the controversy in it. Just because it had a butterfly? Well I’m still a badass and I wear butterflies all the time. You can still be strong. It doesn’t mean anything. I think it’s having the duality. Having the feminine energy and being badass at the same time, that’s what makes women so special is that we can do it all.”
Charlotte recently advanced in the 2026 Queen Of The Ring tournament. You can read more about that here.
