CM Punk: Being A Good Guy Is Hard Work But It Would Be Wasteful To Discard My Connection With Fans

CM Punk prefers being a heel but understands the equity he has built within the wrestling community.

CM Punk has a relationship with wrestling fans that very few in the history of the wrestling industry are able to genuinely create. Since his return to wrestling at AEW Rampage: The First Dance, CM Punk has thrived on providing the wrestling fans with the experience that they have been longing for a says his hiatus in 2014. That being said, CM Punk is also a very capable bad guy but at this time, he says it would be ill-advised to disregard the connection that he has with wrestling fans.

Speaking with Screenrant, CM Punk explains why he has been able to keep such a strong connection with fans, a year after his return.

"I think I have a currency with the audience just having been around for so long, coming from the Indies, going to the old WWF, and you know being around the block. Leaving, coming back after seven years, there's a connection that I have," Punk said. "I don't necessarily enjoy being a good guy. I feel like it's hard work. It's a lot easier to get people to dislike you. But I feel it would be wasteful to, as I said, discard this currency that I have with the audience because it is, I feel, a special connection."

"You know, they're chanting my name for seven years. I came back. They're still stoked about it," he continued. "So I feel like every time I'm in the ring is special to me and I don't want to squander that, and I feel like it's just a giant party with a bunch of your friends, you know? I just want to have a good time with them."

Currently, CM Punk is, unfortunately, dealing with an injury but he is still the reigning AEW World Champion. You can hear about CM Punk's road to recovery here.
