It's been months since CM Punk made a surprise appearance on WWE Backstage, officially joining the show as a special analyst. Punk made his first appearance on WWE Backstage on Nov. 12, being introduced by Renee Young.
Punk's appearance was kept under wraps with only a few people knowing what was going on. Renee was one of those people and Punk credits her for making him feel comfortable on the show.
"All wrestling fans, if they're stoked that I'm doing [WWE Backstage], they owe a debt of gratitude to Renee. I don't think it would have happened if it wasn't for her. I was talking to Fox for a very long time and they immediately got Renee on board. Me and her were having conversations every day. This is a loose show where she still gets to be in the wrestling space, no one is in her ear yelling at her and we still are trying to make the show what we envision it to be. I think she's a great voice for the whole space of wrestling. She can control me. If she wasn't there, I think things would really go south," Punk said on KROQ Radio.
As far as the reaction to his appearance, Punk joked that he "didn't get kicked in the nuts," so he thought it went pretty well.
When asked about whether he's getting the itch to get back in the ring, Punk said "no." But, being a Fox employee and not a WWE employee, Punk could work elsewhere should that itch happen.
"I think if I wrestled for AEW, I'm sure Fox would be like, 'Well, it was fun while it lasted.' Technically, I could do that," he said.
Punk has long stated that he is not actively pursuing a return to the ring, but is open to talking as long as the offer is right. Punk last appeared on WWE Backstage on Feb. 11. You can find Fightful's full report on the show by clicking here.
