CM Punk Had The Blessing Of Paul Bearer’s Children To Disrespect Him During Feud With Undertaker
CM Punk got permission from Paul Bearer’s family.
During his feud with Undertaker in 2013, Punk went really deep with things and disrespected Paul Bearer on multiple occasions. This was a fresh wound for many, as Bearer passed away in the middle of the storyline.
Appearing on Games With Names, Punk said that he had the blessing of Bearer’s children.
“Stuff like that that I think it could be borderline too far, we look back at it now like, wow, this is great TV. But at the time, it was pretty spicy. It was one of those things where I had to make sure — they brought his sons backstage one day. They were always around, I had known them previously. I didn’t even ask. They came to me and they’re like, ‘You know what? You have our blessing, like go ahead, use his name, do what you’re going to do. He would’ve loved it.’ Taker was [on board], [Paul] would be over the moon if he knew that we were doing this. He would love it. He understood the business, he was one of the boys, he got it. I just said, ‘Are you sure? Cause I can get pretty, I can get pretty offensive.’ They said, ‘No, go for it.’ We went for it. Stealing the urn, Paul dressed as Paul Bearer. He looks like Gomez Adams.”
Edelman proceeded to ask Punk if Bearer’s real ashes were in the urn that he used on television. He chuckled at the question and issued a no comment.
Elsewhere in the interview, Punk said his match with Undertaker is overshadowed. Check out his full comments by clicking here.
