CM Punk Loses First Wrestling Match Since January 2014 On 2/2 AEW Dynamite

MJF and CM Punk finally faced off in the ring.

Over the last two months, Punk and MJF have been engaging in a war of words, but aside from a Trios Match on December 22, they have yet to do battle one-on-one. Instead, MJF has been volunteering his fellow Pinnacle members Wardlow and Shawn Spears to fight Punk, both of whom were defeated by The Best in the World.

Last Wednesday, CM Punk came to the ring looking for a match against MJF, but was told that he'd have to wait one more week. MJF agreed to the bout but wanted it to be in Punk's hometown of Chicago so that he could embarrass him in front of family and friends. Furthermore, MJF believes that Punk is putting on a "nice-guy routine" and plans to expose him as two-faced.

The two men main evented the February 2 episode of Dynamite and fought for nearly forty minutes. The contest came to a stop when MJF choked out Punk, but the referee caught MJF using his tape as a weapon and restarted the match. From then on the two men traded chances, but neither could put the other away. It wasn't until Wardlow came out and handed MJF his Dynamite Diamond Ring that the match ended. MJF punched Punk in the face with it on and scored the victory.

MJF is now 1-1 in 2022. This was CM Punk's first AEW loss and first televised defeat in a singles match since January 6, 2014, WWE Raw where he lost to Roman Reigns.
