CM Punk Taunts Long Island Crowd By Wearing John Tavares Jersey On 5/11 AEW Dynamite

CM Punk did not endear himself to the Long Island crowd.

On May 11, Punk faced hometown boy John Silver on AEW Dynamite. Coming out to the ring, Punk was seen wearing a New York Islanders shirt. It wasn't until he turned around that it was revealed to be a John Tavares jersey. The former Islanders captain and first overall pick in 2009 become an antagonist of Islander fans after signing with the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2018.

Despite his best effort, Silver was not able to overcome the number one contender to the AEW Championship. After the match, Punk was greeted in the ring by Hangman Adam Page and said that he doesn't understand why he or the crowd dislike him, noting that it's just business. He added that at Double or Nothing, whether Page is conscious or not, he will shake Punk's hand. He then extended his hand but Hangman not so politely declined.

The Islanders recently fired head coach Barry Trotz after missing the playoffs in his fourth season with the team. Toronto, on the other hand, is currently taking on the defending Stanley Cup Champion Tampa Bay Lightning in round one.
