Cody Rhodes: My Goal Is To Never Need The AEW World Title, Even If I Consider Myself 1A

Cody Rhodes can never challenge for the AEW World Title as a result of a stipulation he put in place ahead of AEW Full Gear 2019.

Cody stated ahead of his AEW World Title bout with Chris Jericho that if he did not win, he would never challenge for the belt again.

Thanks to MJF throwing in the towel on his behalf, he did not win.

When asked on Carton & Roberts if he would continue to stick to that stipulation, Cody stated, "Ultimately, that decision will rest on Tony Khan. I'm going to stick to my word. It's the easiest heel turn in the history of wrestling if I were to break my word, but I love that we are disciplined and conservative and we're presenting wrestling backward from the big events to every little detail. I don't want to sound braggadocious or egotistical, but my goal is to never need the World Championship. Yeah, it sucks to watching Kenny Omega or Jon Moxley with the title when I consider myself the 1A of the group, but I gave my word."

Cody went on to say that he can continue to challenge for the AEW TNT Championship, which he has held two times.

Cody is scheduled to compete in the Face of the Revolution ladder match on Sunday at AEW Revoltuion. The winner of the bout will receive a shot at the AEW TNT Championship. You can check out the current card for AEW Revolution by clicking here.
