Orange Cassidy hasn't been presented as a serious wrestler in AEW, but when he's on-screen, very few elicit the reaction he gets. Cassidy receives big cheers from the audience every time he steps in the ring and blasts opponents with his lethal kicks.
There was some backlash when AEW originally signed Cassidy due to his laid back style. But AEW Co-Executive Vice President Cody was quick to defend the decision, saying Cassidy can go in the ring. In a recent interview on Busted Open Radio, Cody discussed how the fans have rallied behind Cassidy.
"The Orange Cassidy fandom and hysteria, which is beautiful and funny and everything, is something we're going to extrapolate on and expand upon. The one thing I want to avoid is people taking advantage of that fandom. This is a weird outlook, but there have been things that have organically and properly gotten over that the fans chose themselves. Then somebody clings up to it and rubs up against it and dilutes it. That's the navigation that has to be done with Orange Cassidy. He has to continue to take his spotlight, a bigger spotlight, because there's so much more to the individual. Orange Cassidy can go, bell-to-bell. When he goes, it's gonna be a really special night. I love it up to this point. We're going to do everything we can to take care of Orange Cassidy," he said.
Cassidy has mainly been used in six-man tag team matches alongside The Best Friends (Chuckie T & Trent). He's also accompanied the duo in their matches, sometimes making a mid-match appearance.
