Company Insider Says WWE 'Wasn't Seeing Growth' Under Stephanie McMahon

On May 19, Stephanie McMahon took to social media that she would be taking a leave of absence from the majority of her responsibilities at WWE.

McMahon is the Chief Brand Officer of WWE and makes various media appearances promoting the brand while working behind the scenes on deals. She noted in her statement that she would be focusing on her family.

Speaking to Business Insider, a company inside said, "Family or not family, we’ve got to get the right people in place. We weren’t seeing that growth. When someone is moved out of a company, it’s usually the result of something not working. We took stronger control of that a few months ago.”

Appearing on The Pat McAfee Show in March, Vince McMahon said about family expectations, "I've probably expected more from my family members (than other employees). You have to do the right thing for the business. If this person isn't working out, they shouldn't be part of the company."

WWE has a goal of generating $100 million annually via brand partnerships. The company made close to $20 million in advertising-related revenue the first three months of the year.

The report also states that Claudine Lilien — who was hired a year ago by McMahon as head of global sales and partnerships — confirmed she is leaving the company.

WWE posted a job listing for a Brand And Marketing Director at the end of May.
