Cope: John Cena’s Heel Turn Is A Good Shot In The Arm For The Business

Cope (Adam Copeland FKA Edge in WWE) and John Cena spent years as on-screen rivals in WWE, often battling for the WWE Championship.

Cope was the antagonist in the story, combating Cena at every turn.

Things have changed in 2025 with Cena turning his back on the fans while Cope is beloved in AEW.

Appearing on First Up with Korolnek & Colaiacovo, Cope was asked about Cena's turn.

"I generally don’t watch wrestling just because I’m burned out in terms...I think it’s one of those deals when you’re doing it, watching it can be all consuming and I told myself in coming back this time that I wasn’t going to let it do that to me. I have a family and two kids. My downtime is spent with them or watching hockey as opposed to critiquing and pulling apart of wrestling shows. I get my clips from Instagram and I’ll watch them there. I don’t watch the full story, the follow throughs, and all the little beats here and there. I don’t really know how it went, but a lot of people were talking about it. When you get a character that has been around for that long as a babyface, to turn, it’s like when Hogan turned and joined the NWO. It’s always a good shot in the arm for the business, for sure," he said.

Cena followed up his heel turn at WWE Elimination Chamber by winning the Undisputed WWE Championship from Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 41.
