Apollo Crews didn't just level the playing field with the stipulation he chose for his Intercontinental Championship match at WrestleMania 37. He also had a big backup plan.
At WrestleMania 37, Big E and Apollo Crews faxed off in the first-ever Nigerian Drum Fight in WWE history.
Big E Langston was played to the ring by Wale and greeted his hometown crowd with thunderous applause.
The rules of a Nigerian Drum Fight were the same as any hardcore match except with Nigerian-based paraphernalia surrounding the ring.
It was a hard-hitting affair and it appeared that Big E Langston would successfully retain, but that is when Apollo Crews’ insurance policy made his presence felt.
Dabba Kato, the former Babatunde, stormed the ring and dropped the former Champion allowing Apollo Crews to get the victory. During his appearance, commentary did not use any name to reference the giant man.
The last time fans had seen Dabba Kato, he was Shane McMahon’s personal heavy on Raw Underground. He would lose a fight to Braun Strowman shortly before the Raw Underground concept came to an end.
With this victory, Apollo Crews adds his name to the likes of Bret Hart, Rick Rude, Rob Van Dam as those that have won the Intercontinental Championship at WrestleMania
