Darby Allin Has No Regrets With AEW World Title Run, ‘I’m Never Going To Slow Down’

Darby Allin captured the AEW World Title at Dynamite Spring Breakthru, defeating MJF in just over two minutes.

Allin’s reign lasted just 39 days, but he made seven successful title defenses in that period of time.

Speaking to Mark Hoke on the Mark Hoke Show, Darby was asked what he felt as he held the title for the first time.

“I honestly had no emotions left inside of me. I spent all my energy talking in that promo before the match about what it meant to me, and I was so depleted that I had nothing else. As I’m holding [the title], I feel complete emptiness in a way that it took everything and I had no energy left. I was grateful. It took everything, but it was so amazing. Now, looking at it and what I’ve done with my time as champion, I was willing to go places that nobody else was willing to go every single week. We’re not talking about ‘let’s have a night off or a quick defense.’ There were times, especially in my first defense against Tommaso Ciampa, I thought, with some of the spots we did in the match, that the championship run could end from injury. I’m never going to slow down. To me, the moment you slow down, the passion is gone. Why else are you doing this? It’s full throttle every single night. Otherwise, get out of here. With me, there is no offseason. I don’t have to wait until Wembley to show my greatest stuff. I can do it on a weekly basis. I cannot slow down. If I slow down, then I lose the passion, and I’m a very passionate person,” he said.

Asked about the length of the reign, Darby replied, “I have no regrets with that. I was burning the candle at both ends, but I have no regrets at all because you live by the sword, you die by the sword. If it was a short and sweet championship run, that’s my motto. You just have to bring it. I honestly have no regrets.”

While making the media rounds and appearing on 8 News Now in Las Vegas, Darby said about his title reign, “Yeah, it was incredible, and to do it all while never having to change myself. That’s the biggest thing. That’s the biggest thing. In wrestling, there’s so many routes you could take to make it to the top. But I stayed true to myself. I didn’t change a single thing.”

Darby lost the title back to MJF at AEW Double or Nothing.
