Darby Allin On Wrestling On The Indies: I Hate It When People Expect You To Kill Yourself

Darby Allin has become one of the top names in AEW in less than a year on Dynamite, but before that he made his name on the Independent scene. Specifically, he made his name by putting his body on the line and taking crazy bumps.

And while Darby didn't seem to mind taking those bumps, he wanted them to be on his terms.

"The Indies, it's a love-hate relationship. I hate it when people expect you to kill yourself. Like, go out there, beat the hell out of your body and they didn't want to pay you what you deserve for what you put your body through. They just want to use you as a crash test dummy to get views on their Twitter. That drove me up the wall. I'd get to the building and promoters were like, 'We're gonna have you get thrown off this tonight.' Why are you telling me this? You don't dictate what I do. I had a lot of bad experiences with brutally horrible promoters. But there were promotions, like Ronin for example, that were good," Allin told Jimmy Varsallone.

Ronin is an Independent promotion in South Florida where Allin wrestled a handful of matches in 2017.  Allin recently competed in the AEW TNT Title tournament, losing in the semifinals to Cody.
