Don Callis: Fans Dressing Like Me Is Disturbing

Don Callis wants you to stop dressing like him.

In recent months, a number of fans have showed up to AEW events in full Don Callis cosplay. If a camera happens to catch it, these instances will often go viral online.

Speaking with Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp for a new interview, Callis said that he is disturbed by the fans.

“It’s disturbing, frankly. It’s like, ‘Do I really look like that?’ You’re probably too young to remember Telly Savalas and the show Kojak. But I remember growing up in the 70’s—scary. Telly Savalas was an actor and he was this macho guy, but he was bald, and you looked at him like, ‘What’s wrong with him? Is he sick?’ It wasn’t a normal look back then. Guys would kayfabe the hair and they comb it over, get wigs. They never shaved their head. Now it’s become like a normal thing. I had no choice but to shave it.”

Callis went on to say that he doesn’t plan on acknowledging these “insects”.

“But I guess I’ve become easy. It’s like, ‘Well, I’ll get a bald cap and a sharpie and put a scar on my head and get some pink sunglasses and I can dress like this guy.’ So it’s okay. It’s cool. We had it at MLP. There were some people in Windsor who chose to beautify themselves by looking like me. So I don’t acknowledge it, Sean. As you know, the fans are like insects to me. They’re there. I’m there to do my job and to get across what I want and how they react or what they do is really immaterial. Maybe that’s secret to it. Not caring.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Callis had praise for Chris Jericho and his current run in AEW. Check out his full comments by clicking here.
