Dragon Lee is your new NXT North American Champion.

At NXT Deadline, Wes Lee was originally scheduled to face off with Dominik Mysterio for the NXT North American Championship. However, after suffering an injury, Lee would be pulled from the matchup.

In his place, Dragon Lee would step in, and he would be cornered by Dominik's father Rey, who is currently sidelined with a knee injury. Lee has previously challenged Dominik for the title, back on a September edition of Monday Night RAW. On the December 8th edition of Friday Night SmackDown, Dominik would be ringside for Dragon Lee's bout with Santos Escobar, in which Lee would suffer a loss just one night before his championship match with Dominik.

The match would serve as the first bout on the main card of NXT Deadline. Rey Mysterio would make his entrance on crutches, nursing his injured knee before making his way to the ringside area alongside Dragon Lee. Rey would be on commentary for the matchup. Dominik would make his way to the ring second, noticeably alone.

Early on in the bout, Dominik took control over the masked Dragon Lee, heeling it up for the crowd. However, it would not take long for Lee to rally and hit a diving stomp to the champions chest as he hung from the top rope. Both men would barely make it back into the ring for the count.

Dragon Lee would take over the match at this point, hitting a sequence of big moves on the Judgment Day member. This would lead to a near fall where Dominik would manage to grab the rope, which Rey gave him credit for his ring awareness. The two men would continue to trade near falls until Dragon Lee would hit his finishing move for the three count, crowning him as the new North American Champion. Lee would embrace Rey Mysterio after the victory.
