Drew McIntyre Recalls Rey Mysterio Pitching A Feud For Them To Vince McMahon

Drew McIntyre reflects on Rey Mysterio going to bat for him backstage in WWE.

While Drew McIntyre entered WWE as “The Chosen One” in 2009, he didn't stay that way for long. Within two years, Drew was losing his spot on the card and trying to find a path to WrestleMania 27.

During his struggling days, Drew McIntyre had the support of one legend in particular that wanted to work with him, Rey Mysterio.

Drew McIntyre recalled Rey Mysterio’s graciousness in a new interview with Metro in the UK.

"I remember having a match on SmackDown one time, which went really well – the first time we’d wrestled in a singles match. I wasn’t doing anything significant at the time, my career was on a bit of a downward spiral at the time," said Drew. "I really needed to get into a storyline or work with somebody that could get me back on the right path. Rey actually went to Vince himself and told him, 'You’ve got something with this guy, I’d really love to do something with him.' Never materialized, they had plans for him, unfortunately, but he really went out of his way to try and push for me."

Both Rey Mysterio and Drew McIntyre would end up leaving WWE, going on to explore other avenues of wrestling before returning to the brand. On his second time around, Drew McIntyre has been much more successful and even headline WrestleMania 36 by defeating Brock Lesnar for the WWE Championship.

Rey Mysterio is currently the cover star of WWE 2K22 and the star of the Showcase Mode.

The game is available now for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S/X, and PC via Steam.
