Drew McIntyre Says Wrestling Brock Lesnar At WrestleMania Has Been Motivation For Him

Drew McIntyre has been pretty motivated for his WWE return, with one of those goals for his return being a match against Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania.

In an interview with the Mirror, McIntyre spoke on his goals coming back and one of them actually involved getting to wrestle Lesnar at WrestleMania 36 next month. McIntyre admitted that goal pushed him to work harder at the gym and work on his mic skills to keep up with Paul Heyman, Lesnar's advocate.

"Yeah, it's obviously very different to how I could have ever imagined it, but I am sitting down and reflecting and it is very close to WrestleMania now, and it is becoming kind of real, that 'wow' factor. All those goals I set myself when I was outside of WWE, one of those fantasy goals in my head was to wrestle Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania. That was an actual goal that I had in my head, it was something I used as motivation to push me to the gym, to be big enough to fight Brock. It pushed me to be intense enough in the ring to fight Brock. And also, to be good enough. I've tried to get better on the microphone to keep up with Paul Heyman. All these things, I have used as motivation outside the company," McIntyre said.

Although McIntyre is in one of the marquee matches for WrestleMania, there was a time that McIntyre believed he would not be back in WWE after his first stint with the company ended years ago. McIntyre says he looks at this match against Lesnar as just another part of his career journey.

"Outside of WWE, it got to the point where I thought that maybe I would not go back, because [my career] was going so well, then suddenly things took a turn, as they always do in the career of Drew, and suddenly I was back in the company, and now to be in this position is just crazy. I sit down and think about the journey, and also the fact that my journey has become part of the story going into the match," McIntyre said.

Fightful will have live coverage of WrestleMania 36, taking place on April 4 and 5.
