Drew McIntyre Knew NXT Was The Place For Him To Start In WWE

After leaving WWE, Drew McIntyre had a plan to come back.

Drew McIntyre was cut from WWE in 2014 and went back to wrestling for independent promotions for the first time in seven years. He became one of the biggest stars on the independent wrestling circuit and eventually got picked back up by WWE. He first appeared at NXT, became Champion there, and eventually made his way to Raw this year during the Superstar Shakeup

In an appearance on Chasing Glory with Lilian Garcia, McIntyre said he knew that was his path back to the main roster.

“I told my wife in the beginning when NXT really started catching fire, I walk like 'You know what, when I go back there first, if I do my thing here and I get a reputation in the independent scene, then I believe I can get an angle to NXT because it’s such a passionate fan base. I think that would be the place for me to go to really show what I can do. And then when the time is right, because the transition is so much smoother from NXT to RAW and Smackdown,'" said McIntyre.

After he was cut, McIntyre appeared on Chris Jericho's podcast and said he would be making his way back to WWE. He addressed that in the interview with Garcia and also talked about the day he found out he was cut.
