Eli Drake is the first GFW Global Champion in the post- Alberto El Patron era.
Drake won the championship at a recent set of Global Force Wrestling tapings that aired Thursday night on Impact. Drake outlasted the rest of the GFW roster in a Gauntlet for the Gold match, last beating Johnny IMPACT and Eddie Edwards. The finish came when Drake hit Edwards with an Eli Drop for the pinfall victory.
This is the 34-year old Drake's first world title reign, although he previously held the TNA King of the Mountain Championship shortly after his 2015 TNA debut.
The match came about when Alberto El Patron was stripped of the GFW Championship earlier this month after having domestic issues with his girlfriend Paige in public.
