Epico Says He Spoke To Vince McMahon About Bringing Back Carlito

It’s been several years since Carlito last stepped into a WWE ring, but there was an attempt from Epico to bring him back.

Speaking with Super Luchas, Epico revealed that he had talked with both Michael Hayes and Vince McMahon about bringing back the former United States Champion. At first, it seemed that all parties were on board with the idea, but then, Epico said certain individuals intervened and when a contract was being made to send to Carlito, it was similar to that of a developmental deal.

"So Michael Hayes and he gave Vince the OK and that it was a great idea. Well, let's try to get [Carlito]. This entire process took about three months. Politically, a lot of other people that had power intervened, I don't know if it's people that Carlito annoyed. But when the call was made to Carlito, they offered a contract you would give to a developmental talent, practically saying, 'We're offering you a deal, not because we want you, it's just because. Take it or leave it.' We figured okay, there's something that's beyond our control that is coming between us and Vince. When we were talking with our boss at Talent Relations, and asked, 'What happened with Carlito?' We were told that Vince had not given the okay. So we told him, 'Let's go talk to Vince! He's there' He was afraid of that, but we told him, 'We have confidence in Vince'. So we grabbed him by the arm and we went to Vince's office. He's on the phone and we asked him about Carlito and our director asks, 'What are we doing with Carlito?' Vince does [the thumbs up sign, but nothing ever materialized]," Epico said.

Carlito, who is related to Epico, was released by WWE back in 2010 and during his time with the company, he also held the Intercontinental and World Tag Team Championship. Since then, Carlito wrestled on the independent circuit and also for his father Carlos Colon’s WWC Promotion in Puerto Rico.

Epico, along with Primo, were among those who got released by WWE on April 15. Despite still being under contract with WWE for years, Epico and Primo were wrestling for WWC. Epico, as Orlando Colon, is currently the WWC Universal Champion.
