Excalibur Discusses The Time Daniel Bryan vs. Kenny Omega Broke-Out Into A Nursery Rhyme Singalong

Every now and again, two masters of the mat step inside the squared circle and create magic as only they can. Kenny Omega and Daniel Bryan created magic together once but not in the way that you would expect.

Long before Kenny Omega was “The Best Bout Machine” and Daniel Bryan was the leader of “The Yes! Movement,” Kenny Omega met Bryan Danielson inside of a PWG ring.

What happened next was something that nobody could have foreseen.

Even though Kenny Omega was far from his peak, he was still a great wrestler. Bryan Danielson, was known for being the best wrestler in the world. Naturally, that means that these two men stood in the middle of the ring and sang John Jacob Jingleheimer Schmidt together.

Speaking about this unexpected occurrence on the My Mom's Basement podcast with Robbie Fox, Excalibur, who was for so long synonymous with PWG, explained that this moment is what makes a promotion like PWG special.

“Everybody was expecting this hard-hitting, fast-paced, Match of the Year. It's literally two of the top wrestlers in the world. About six minutes in, Kenny Omega says 'stop, what's your name?' They do this whole John Jacob Jingleheimer Schmidt routine and they're dancing around the ring. I'm on commentary like, 'What...is going on?' The crowd enjoyed it and was very happy, but it wasn't the match I think anybody was expecting and there was a lot of conversation around that. That's the great thing about pro wrestling and PWG in general. It was a place for guys to experiment and do these concept style matches.”

Both men would go on to prove that they do have the comedic ability. Daniel Bryan would have a series of fun sketches with Kane as part of Team Hell No! and Kenny would regularly show his comedic skills on the Being The Elite series.

Nowadays, both have branched out significantly. Kenny is EVP of AEW in addition to being the World Champion of the promotion and Daniel Bryan has headlined WrestleMania and is looking to do so again this year.
