Abyss reflects on wrestling Sabu.
The wrestling world sadly lost Sabu on May 11, 2025. One of the most innovative wrestlers of his era, Sabu competed in WWE, WCW, ECW, and TNA, and was also a pioneer of the independent circuit in the Northeast. During his time in TNA, Sabu had a lengthy feud with Abyss, which began in 2005 in the first-ever Barbed Wire Massacre in TNA Wrestling history.
Abyss recently reflected on his rivalry with Sabu during an interview with Fightful's Sean Ross Sapp. He says that Sabu's unfortunate passing deeply affected him. He spoke about his love for the industry and expressed pride in what they had accomplished together.
"Fun and great memories with Sabu. We got close and we were friends. Him passing away really hit me. He was a great man. He loved this business and gave everything he had to this business. The barbed wire massacre match, the very first match he and I had, that was groundbreaking. To see that on live TV in North America, I believe it was the first time live in North America, a no ropes barbed wire match. We went out there and massacred each other. I was bleeding, I was cut, I was banged up and could barely walk after it, but I had never been more happy in my life. He and I shared the ring a lot and did a lot of matches together. I am extremely proud of all that. Those were great memories."
