Ben Bishop: There's Going To Be A Big Man Revolution Soon. 2026, The Year Of The Big Man

Ben Bishop believes they will soon be a big man revolution in professional wrestling.

In the '80s and '90s, professional wrestling was defined by the heavyweight and super heavyweight wrestlers, especially in the United States. Hulk Hogan, Ultimate Warrior, Vader, Undertaker, Kevin Nash, Sid, and men who looked like them were the standard in the industry.

Over time, the industry evolved, and relatively smaller wrestlers such as Shawn Michaels, Bret Hart, and Edge became the new standard. As time passed, names like Bryan Danielson, Kofi Kingston, and Johnny Gargano no longer looked out of place in the main event scene and became the standard of how wrestlers looked and wrestled.

Ben Bishop is on the independent circuit right now, and he's much closer to the size of the names that ruled the industry in the '80s and '90s. During a recent interview with Fightful's Sean Ross Sapp, Bishop was asked about the current state of big men in wrestling and revealed that he believes there will come a time when wrestlers of that size and stature dominate the scene again.

"That's actually a really good question," he said. "I think just like everything, Sean, everything evolves. Music evolves, interests evolve. I think we're just past the days of like the Repo Man and the Gobbledy Gooker and the Goon. I wish we'd bring it back, honestly. That was the best. But now everybody's just got to do a little bit more and we're moving towards more of an athletic product, wrestling all around. A lot of athletic big men do other things. So they don't wrestle. We're trying to bring that back. There's a lot of good big men. You look at guys like Oba Femi currently. You said Krule/Mads Krügger. I'll put myself up there. There's a few.

"Remember. I'm 6’12, legit 6’12, and everyone's seeing it," he continued. "But no, I think there's going to be a big man revolution soon. I really do. I think at some point, everything's eventually going to come back around. We'll get back to it. 2025, maybe 2026, the Year of the Big Man."

Ben Bishop also spends a lot of time making videos for social media, joking about tropes in the independent wrestling scene. Fans can follow Ben Bishop on X and Instagram.
