Jake Roberts On Cody Rhodes Loss At WrestleMania: Business-wise, It Did Disappoint A lot Of People

Jake Roberts is hoping the WWE gives Cody the title he is chasing.

On this week's Wrestling Perspective Podcast, their guest was WWE Hall of Famer Jake "The Snake” Roberts. Roberts joined the show for a lengthy discussion on various topics. One of those topics was about “The American Nightmare” Cody Rhodes and his recent loss to the Tribal Chief Roman Reigns at WrestleMania.

Jake Roberts had worked over 950 matches for Vince McMahon during the 1980s and ’90s. So Roberts would explain why he knew Vince would not let Cody win the title on Night Two of this year's WrestleMania. Roberts, also known as the Master of Ring Psychology, was clever inside and outside the ring, which likely meant he knew what Vince McMahon usually wanted.

Roberts says, "Well, knowing Vince McMahon, I could have told you that's what would happen. Because everybody just knew Cody [Rhodes] was going to take it [get the victory], and if everybody's calling for it. Vince is going to do quite the opposite, you know? He doesn't want anyone calling his shit. So, as far as business-wise, it did disappoint a lot of people.”

“I don’t think it hurt Cody. But, I mean, my god, they threw everything but the kitchen sink at him. But, at some point soon, they would give the title to him." Roberts said.

Roberts would also mention in the interview how he appreciated AEW and Cody, allowing him to return to work in March 2020.

“[What] AEW gave me is that when I came back, they let me go out to the ring and do that thing with [promo] Cody. It meant so much to me to go out and feel the ropes again, feel the mat, smell it. It’s just an amazing feeling that I had, and I really appreciate that." Roberts said.

Cody Rhodes faced Brock Lesnar at WWE's Night of Champions in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on Saturday, May 27th, in a rematch from WrestleMania Backlash rematch. The results for that event can be viewed here.
